world champion trophy

The UK Trophy is awarded biennially to the International Mirror Class Association World Champions.

About the UK Trophy

Presented by the Mirror Class Association of Great Britain at the first World Championship in 1976. This trophy was made by Geoff Gillatt and Frank Webb, Pegasus Sailing Club Fleet No.2.

2023 loss by DHL

In 2023 the courier firm DHL were tasked with transporting this trophy from the Netherlands (2019 winners) to Ireland ready the 2023 World Championships in Sligo. DHL lost the trophy, and dispite best efforts to track it down, it remains lost (in 2026).

2024 replacement

A replacement, near identical trophy was produced by Reggie Goodbody (Lough Derg, Ireland) and eventually presented to the 2023 winner Ben McGrane in 2025. At this point the UK Container bound for the 2025 Worlds in RSA (at Easter) had already been packed and departed.

Here are some photographs of past winners

Year Held by Note
2025 James & Harry Kornweibel The trophy got stuck in RSA Customs, so was not presented at the event. Eventually Thomas Funke (RSA) got it released from Customs and has it.
2023 Ben & Keria McGrane The replacement was not produced until towards the end of 2024
